Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sept 1: Amid the coronavirus pandemic and restrictions on public movement, the 10-day Ganesh festival concluded here today, although the usual pomp and glory was missing this year. The 10-day long festive fervour of Ganeshotsav, beginning from Ganesh Chaturthi this year commenced on August 22. It is that time of the year when devotees bring Bappa home, pray to him, seeking his blessings before bidding him a tearful adieu with a promise of coming back next year. Nitish Mahajan, BJP State Executive Committee member also bade adieu to Ganesh ji with immense fervor and gaiety here today. However, the festival this year is being celebrated in a much more restricted way amidst the global pandemic situation. The social distancing norms will prevent people from celebrating the festival in the congregation, he added. “The festival of Ganesh Chaturthi is also known as Vinayaka Chaturthi, marks the birth of the elephant-headed God. It begins on the fourth day (Chaturthi) of the month of Bhadrapada, the sixth month of the Hindu calendar. It concludes after 10 days on the day of Anant Chaturdashi, when the idol is submerged in the nearest body of water. Lord Ganesh is considered an embodiment of wisdom and widely revered as the remover of obstacles,” Mahajan said. Nitish Mahajan prayed that Lord Ganesha bless all to overcome the Covid-19 pandemic. “May Ganpati ji help us all to overcome COVID-19 pandemic and bless us with a happy and healthy life,” he said, adding that celebration of such festivals bring people together and cement the bonds of brotherhood and communal harmony. He hoped that this auspicious occasion will usher Jammu and Kashmir in peace. Among those who were present included Rajat Sharma, Surjeet Singh, Manav Gupta and Ajit Verma. |
