Azad loyalists waiting for his signal for further action | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 1: Although loyalists of Ghulam Nabi Azad in the J&K Congress have maintained a silence, they are waiting for the signal of their leader to announce their next course of action. Many loyalists of Azad have already distanced themselves from on-going activities in J&K Congress which is controlled by a group where they (Azad loyalists) have already been sidelined for quite some time. Credible sources said that some known loyalists of Azad have told their supporters that they will follow the direction of their leader. “Presently most of the Azad loyalists in J&K Congress have started parallel activities to remain active in the politics”, sources said and sought to draw attention of recent programmes organized by Azad supporters in which leaders of a particular faction were invited. After writing a letter before the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting, Azad has already adopted assertive approach to show his strength to the high-command. Azad, one of the signatories of the letter that sought a leadership change in the party, has now called for internal elections and said that a president appointed without one may not even have 1% support of the leaders. “Those office-bearers or state unit presidents or block district presidents who attack our proposal know that they will be nowhere when elections happen,” Azad told a section of media. “Otherwise, whoever is genuinely invested in the Congress will welcome the letter”, he said. Letter for leadership change followed by this statement is a clear indication that Azad is not going to intensify his campaign and his support base in J&K where his supporters are waiting for his signal. |
