Early Times Report

SRINAGAR, Feb 11: At a time when Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha led Jammu & Kashmir administration is committed to provide employment to educated and unemployed youth the University of Kashmir is doing otherwise while delaying appointment of contractual lecturers at the university campus.
Sources told Early Times that although the interview process for the selection of contractual lecturers at the Faculty of Sciences has started no such thing has happened at the Faculty of Social Sciences.
This has led to disillusionment among the research scholars and other youth who applied for the posts.
“Scores of youth have applied for the post of contractual teachers in the different departments and these people are dejected following inordinate delay in the recruitment process. Although the interviews have got underway at the Faculty of Sciences the same is yet to start in the Faculty of Social Sciences,” said sources.
Sources said that the advertisement notice for appointment of contractual lecturers in different departments at the university campus was issued more than two months back. The advertisement notice had given some hope for the highly educated but unemployed youth with their hopes getting dashed due to the delay in the appointment process.
“The entire Faculty of Social Sciences is in crisis because of favoritism, inefficiency, delays and other reasons. Classes for new semesters are beginning in three months and the students are bound to suffer given the delay in appointment of contractual lecturers. The delay in the appointment of contractual lecturers is unnecessary and disturbing,” said sources.
Sources said that Dean of Faculty of Social Sciences is the most ‘inefficient’ and ‘lethargic’ of all the officers as well as academicians at the campus of University of Kashmir. They said that just like the previous Deans, he is known for delaying the academic events and the associated processes leading to heartburn for the highly qualified youth.
“The research proposals of 2018 batch of PhD of entire Social Science Faculty are yet to be approved. Rather than compensating what students and scholars suffered since the last two years, he moves things so slowly much to the displeasure and disappointment of the students more so the research scholars,” said sources.
Sources said that couple of Professors in the Department of Sociology at the Faculty of Social Sciences is always at loggerheads and due to this rivalry as well as bad blood many students became victims. They said in the Department of Political Science the previous Dean of Social Sciences made a contractual appointment that was not based on merit. Although, the matter reached Raj Bhawan, but no action whatsoever was taken.
