First Avian Influenza case detected in Bandipora
Several villages declared as “Infected Zones”

BANDIPORA, Feb 23: Bandipora on Tuesday reported its first case of avian influenza as samples taken from dead domestic geese returned positive for the disease, while many villages have been declared as “Infected Zones”.
According to an order vide no: DCB/PS/2020-21/8932-43 dated 23/02/2021 issued by the Deputy Commissioner Bandipora, Dr Owais Ahmad that reads, It is notified the outbreak of Avian Influenza (H5N8) in domestic geese in Khar Mohalla, Daderkoot Payeen, District Bandipora.
Whereas the said outbreak has necessitated the initiation of certain control and containment measures including the deceleration of villages and habitations as “Infected” and Surveillance” zones, said an order copy.
It further said that, In view of the above and in order to control the spread of Avian Influenza, I Dr Owais Ahmad, Deputy Commissioner, Bandipora, in terms of instructions contained in above referred government notification and the revised action plan for prevention, control and containment of Avain Influnza-2021 issued by ministry of fisheries, animal husbandry and dairying, Govt of India, do hereby as under.
Habitation within 1 km radius from epicenter viz Khar Mohalla, Hajam Mohalla and Gojjerpati of village Saderkoot Payeen are declared as “Infected zone”.
Villages within 10 kms radius from epicenter viz Saderkoot Bala, Ajas, Check-Sudunara, Garoora and Nadihal are declared as Surveillance zones.
The chief Animal Husbandry Officer, Bandipora has been directed to take immediate measures, as he shall act as supervisory officer for all technical operations in infected and surveillance in general, however in respect of operations involving migratory and wild birds, range officer, wildlife/wetland, Bandipora shall be the supervisory officers.
Control room has been established with designated manpower for effective reception and dissemination and reception of grievances/reports of outbreak.
The supervisory officer has been directed to constitute the required number of rapid response teams in the infected and surveillance zones.
He shall also mage adequate arrangements for all the required logistic viz PPE Kits, Disinfectants/Slack Lime/ Rain Coats/Gum boots/Kerosene etc, while as the officer has been directed to undertake depopulation of birds in the infected zones as per the procedure mentioned in the action plan.
There will a complete ban on inward and outward movement of all types of poultry birds/poultry products from the infected zones.
They shall also ensure closure of all such markets/shops dealing in sale of poultry/poultry products in the infected zone, reads an order copy.
