Jammu, Feb 23: Travellers pose a serious threat to deal with deadly Coronavirus in the Union Territory (UT) of J&K as neighbouring Punjab witnessed a surge in Covid cases during the last couple of days. Out of total 94 cases tested positive today in J&K, 47 were travellers, who entered J&K from different parts of the country. Out of these 47 travellers, 32 were tested positive in Srinagar district only. Although high-alert has already been sounded in different parts of the country after five states including neighbouring Punjab witnessed a surge in positive cases, authorities in J&K are adopting a causal approach after a decrease in the number of cases in the UT. A high alert has been sounded in five states as Covid-19 cases surge. State governments have ordered mandatory testing at borders and airports. Five states namely Maharashtra, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Punjab witnessed a surge in the positive cases during the last one week. Despite a surge in the positive cases in neighbouring Punjab, authorities in J&K are yet to be awake from deep slumber. Sources said that instead of taking the matter seriously, authorities are adopting a casual approach at airports and railway stations. On February 22, 29 travellers were tested in J&K. Similarly on February 21, 35 travellers were tested positive in UT and the number of positive travellers on February 19 was 24. |
