BJP loses confidence vote, control over Pahalgam Municipal Committee | | | Early Times Report
Anantnag, Mar 5: The BJP on Friday formally lost control over Pahalgam civic body after National Conference members passed a no-confidence motion against President and Vice-President of municipal Committee. Amid stringent security, the no-confidence motion was passed with 8-0 margin at a special session of the municipality. None of the BJP councilors attended the session which was presided over by Tehsildar Pahalgam. In an official communiqué, Executive Officer MC Pahalgam wrote to District Election Officer Anantnag that 08 councilors moved a resolution on 15th of January 2021 requiring the President and Vice-President of the Municipality to vacate the office and pursuant to directions of Deputy Election Officer Anantnag on 5th March at 11:30 am wherein 08 councilors out of 13 members were present in the special meeting. “The motion of no-confidence was put to voting in order to show majority. The no-confidence was successful as 08 councilors present in the special meeting,” he wrote. Rayees Ahmad Lone, who was heading the civic body at Pahalgam from last over two years, welcomed the move and hoped that the District Election Officer had proceeded as per law. “We will support whoever is elected as President if he carries forward the developmental program at Pahalgam,” he said. If all goes as per the plan, the National Conference is all set to take control of Pahalgam Municipal Committee. The party is set to elect Owais Ahmad Sheikh as President of the civic party. |
