Jammu, Mar 5: In a significant move to encourage Divyangs to seek higher education for promising future, J&K Samaj Kalyan Kendra, Jammu, a 40-year old NGO dedicated to the welfare of deaf & dumb children and running the School for Hearing & Speech Handicapped, has decided to reimburse fifty percent of the fee of each semester of its alumni seeking admission in graduation and post-graduation courses. At the meeting of its Governing Body, the members of the NGO were delighted to learn that two of its alumni, Vaishali Raina & Sunil Kumar have obtained degrees of the Bachelor of Computer Application from Lovely Professional University this year. Another alumnus has got reappear in BCA from the same University in some papers. All of them are alumni of the 2016 batch of the School which provide free education up to higher secondary. These divyang alumni of the School and their parents have shown remarkable courage to move on overcoming their physical infirmities, and sought admission in Lovely Professional University and made a mark. Finding difficult financial conditions of their parents and commitment to encourage alumni to acquire higher education , the Samaj Kalyan Kendra has set up a Fund for extending financial assistance to the extent of 50 % of each semester fee to the maximum of Rs 7000, to such alumni so that they could redeem their dreams and get better placements for meaningful life. Immediately after the decision, Rs. 76, 000 were contributed by the office bearers of the NGO. It includes Rs. 50,000 arranged by the Senior Vice President, Vijay Bhagotra, Rs. 11,000 donated by its Life Member M L Kachroo and Rs. 5000 each by the President, K B Jandial, General Secretary J K Vaid and member of the Governing Body, B. B. Magotra. The President has appealed to the people, especially affluent individuals & institutions to contribute towards this Divyang Welfare Fund so that these Divyang can attain higher professional education to contribute to society. Their excellence in higher education and placement in the Govt and Corporate sector would encourage other alumni to go for higher education that would change their life with a promising career.
