HC directs PCB to submit air quality index report, renewal of licence | PIL on closure of Brick Kiln near Middle School Dongi | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Mar 5: Hearing a public inter litigation (PIL), seeking directions for closure of a Brick Kiln situated near a middle school in Reasi district, the J&K High Court has sought air quality index report from the Pollution Control Board as well as the copy of renewal of the unit. A High Court Bench comprising of Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur and Justice Javed Iqbal Wani has asked DyAG to submit a report of Brick Kiln’s recent past inspection report. “Considering the nature of controversy, where learned counsel for the petitioner has highlighted the existence of the brick kiln in the close proximity of Government Girls Middle School (GGMS) Dongi, village Laiter, Tehsil Pouni District Reasi, we deem it appropriate to incorporate the Pollution Control Board (PCB) through its Secretary as party respondent in the array of respondents”, the bench ordered. “Aijaz Lone, learned Dy AG to submit a report as to whether the brick kiln has ever been inspected in the recent past or not and the said unit fulfils the minimum norms for controlling pollution. The Board is directed to file a latest report with regard to the air quality index in the said area. The records pertaining to grant of no objection certificate (NOC) to the petitioner by the respondent No.3 i.e., Deputy Commissioner Reasi, as also the renewal thereof be also made available before this Court on the date of hearing i.e., 10/03/2021”, the bench further ordered.
