Early Times Report JAMMU, Mar 18: A one day training-cum-awareness programme under CSIR-Aroma Mission on "Cultivation, Processing, Value Addition and Marketing of Aromatic Crops" was organized by CSIR, Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine, Jammu (IIIM) in collaboration with APAAR NGO, Pithoragarh and Farmalogist Essence & Organic LLP, New Delhi today at Panchmukhi Dharmshala, Tanakpur, Uttarakhand. More than 150 farmers and other stakeholders including 60 women from different villages of Tanakpur participated in this programme. Chief Guest of the programme Vimi Joshi, Assistant Project Director, DRDA Champawat motivated women participants and unemployed youth to take full advantage of opportunities being provided under CSIR-Aroma Mission. She assured all the necessary support from the DRDA side in implementation of the project in the region. The programme was also attended by Subhash Joshi, President APAAR NGO, Pithoragarh. He informed participants about different activities of APAAR in the region. He said Farmers of the region are very hard working and they should join Aroma Mission to enhance their livelihood. Sumeet Gairola, Nodal Scientist, CSIR-Aroma Mission (IIIM, Jammu) conveyed message of Dr. D. Srinivasa Reddy, Director, IIIM Jammu. Reddy in his message asked participants to join CSIR Aroma Mission for development of aroma industry in the region. Earlier Gairola in his presentation gave introduction to the CSIR Aroma Mission Phase-2 and told that there is a huge potential of growing aromatic crops in the Tanakpur and surrounding areas. He said that the crops like Lemongrass, Rosagrass, mint and tulsi varieties are suitable for the region and will be promoted in the region by CSIR-IIIM, Jammu. Vikash Babu, Senior Scientist, CSIR-IIIM, Jammu discussed about value addition and entrepreneurship opportunities in the region through Aroma Mission for making India self-reliant in the field of production of some Essential oils. |
