Tribal Affairs Deptt releases money at year-end, R&B fails to construct sub-centers | Director Tribal Affairs blames DC Anantnag for delay | | Saahil Suhail
Early Times Report
Anantnag, Mar 18: The R&B Department in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district is all set to surrender lakhs of rupees which were released by the Tribal Affairs Department to it for constructing health facilities in tribal areas. However, the Director Tribal Affairs Department blamed Anantnag District administration saying his department didn’t receive the works plan in time. According to documents available with Early Times, the Tribal Affairs Department released around Rs 43 lakhs to Deputy Commissioner Anantnag in January for the construction of four Sub-Centers at four different places in the district. Accordingly, Deputy Commissioner Anantnag accorded the administrative approval Vide No. 10-DDCA of 2021 Dated 12-01-2021 to works on 12th of January 2021 and released the money to Chief Medical Officer Anantnag. Dr Mukhtar Ahmad, Chief Medical Officer Anantnag, told Early Times that he timely released the money to the concerned executing agency. “We have nothing to do with it. We released the money so it is now up to them,” he said. Executive Engineer R&B Department Anantnag confirmed that they can’t spend the money. “We haven’t been provided any land therefore we couldn’t float tenders,” he said. However, the Director Tribal Affairs Department blamed Deputy Commissioner Anantnag for the delay. “We had asked Anantnag district administration to submit a plan but they failed so it isn’t our fault,” Mohammad Saleem, Director Tribal Affairs Department told Early Times. Tribal activists said that releasing funds in the month of January establishes the fact that the department had adopted a lackadaisical attitude in dealing with the case. The Tribal Department is already under public scanner for failing to deliver up to the expectations of the tribal community. The department had also failed to spend Rs.104 crore fund revalidated for the year 2019-20 under Centrally Sponsored Schemes (CSS). Moreover, the department also failed to spend funds under the State Capex Budget in 2018-19. |
