Jammu, Mar 18: Top leadership of National Conference including former chief minister Omar Abdullah today paid tributes to party leader Wali Mohammad Itoo on his 27th death anniversary but none of them mustered the guts to take on terrorists who were responsible for gruesome killing of Itoo in Jammu. Instead of criticizing terror groups for bloodshed and destruction in Kashmir Valley, NC leaders raked up political issues and demanded Indo-Pak dialogue. Itoo, who was Speaker and ex-Revenue Minister of J&K, was shot dead near a mosque in Talab Khatikan area of Jammu on March 18, 1994. It was the first political killing in Jammu province. He was killed by some Kashmir based terrorists from point blank range. After surviving repeated terror attacks, Itoo along with his family had shifted to a safer place at Jammu but terrorists chased him at Jammu also and ultimately killed him. His successor-daughter Sakeena Itoo, a former minister, has also survived over 20 attacks on her life. National Conference paid tributes to a veteran leader and former MLA Noorabad Wali Mohammad Itoo on his 27th Death Anniversary. Party vice President Omar Abdullah remembered the contribution of Itoo to the party and termed him as a ‘statesman who stood in defense of his principles till his last breath’.
