First Rhododendron conservation day celebrated

JAMMU, Mar 18: First Rhododendron Conservation Day was celebrated by Govt. Degree College Darhal in which ex-Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and Tree Talk Crusader O.P. Vidyarthi was the chief guest.
He told about the significance of Rhododendron a flowering plant present in Darhal area. He said that the petals of the flowers of this plant can be used in making tea which is highly beneficial for health. He also told about the anti-inflammatory property of the plant.
He laid emphasis on planting more number of Rododendron plants in the Darhal area. In his highly motivational interaction with the students, he advised the students never to lose any opportunity of planting the trees because they are the source of oxygen and scenic beauty.
On this occasion Principal of the college Prof. Sumanesh Jasrotia threw light on the role of Sahitya Akedmi Puraskar Winner Mr. Vidyarthi. He said that his commitment and dedication towards preserving environment is always exemplary, both in his profession as well as in his writing stint. It is very rare to come across people who were fortunate enough to have found professions similar to their hobbies and O.P.Sharma is one such man.
His writings reflect his skill of making complex concepts understandable to common masses and this, he considers as his greatest weapon to connect with his readers. He assured that Rhododendron Conservation Day shall be celebrated in future also in GDC Darhal so that the extinct species of this plant may be saved. Earlier Dr. Ashaq Raza, a great researcher in Botany, talked about the flora and fauna of Darhal area.
