J&K Budget short of expectations, needs on various fronts: Congress
3/18/2021 11:54:47 PM

EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, Mar 18: Jammu and Pradesh Congress Committee has said that J&K Budget allocations are short of the people’s expectations and needs on various fronts in view of numerous challenges and dreams post downgrading of state into a UT.
Reacting to this year’s budget for J&K, senior leaders of J&K Congress have said a meager increase from 1,01,428 crores to 1.08 crores as compared to the last year, is even less the routine enhancement expected by the people in view of the large scale unemployment, due less opportunities of job generations and economic distress post division and downgrading of state into UT and especially the dreams shown to the people by the BJP after the abrogation of special status.
Senior leaders Mula Ram, Ravinder Sharma, Kanta Bhan, Yogesh Sawhney, Hari Singh Chib and others have expressed dismay over the lack of any major initiatives to boost the economically distressed region, due to the division and downgrading of the historic state and resultant atmosphere of uncertainty disturbing the trade, transport, business, tourism activities.
They said that due to lack of employment during past few years, there is large scale unemployment in the government and private sectors. The youth are getting frustrated with meager job opportunities while the self employed and the causal, need based and daily wagers are on roads for justice.
Several decisions of the UT administration has rendered the self employed also a jobless and the business atmosphere is vitiated. All sorts of business trade and tourism activity is at lowest levels while the inflation is at its peak. In view of this several initiatives were required to boost the sagging economy and the GOI should have liberally helped the de-stabilized region, which are short of expectations of different sections.
They said that Refugess and Displaced Persons of 1947, 1965 & 1971 were promised thirty lakh per family but even 5.5 lakh per family has not been released and disbursed to all eligible families, after more than five and half years. There is no provision for their balance payments. The daily wagers, need based and causal workers of around one lac were expecting budgetary provisions for their pending wages of several months besides, regularization but there is no provision for them. The Anganwadi workers, helpers, Lamberdars, Chowkidars and various categories of contractual employees were expecting enhancement of their wages due to unprecedented inflation but these majors are missing.
The provision of Rs 10 crores for district with DDCs, too would be short of the large scale needs and expectations of people from PRIs, as the government has given high hopes to the people from them with regard to developmental needs and various gap in the basic amenities to the rural population.
