Analysis: Who joined whom? PC gets Baigh mask! | | | Early Times Report jammu, Mar 26: Has veteran politician Muzaffar Hussain Baigh joined the Peoples Conference or the vice versa? This question is doing the rounds in the political circles with many saying that separatist leader Sajjad Lone who heads the PC was not being seen as "proper face" to lead the party. Sources said the history of Sajad Lone having been as separatist was "not good" for the PC due to the abrogation of the special status of Jammu and Kashmir as after the historic development, "New Delhi has gone tough on those nurturing separatist sentiment." Sources said another reason was that Baigh is much elder to Sajad and will help the PC make image of party led by veteran leader. "Another factor is that he (Baigh) has good voter base in north Kashmir and these votes will add to the votes of the Peoples Conference in future and the party will be able to win the coming elections from there," said a politician keeping track on the political developments. Sources said another major reason is that Baigh also has his "friends in corridors of power in New Delhi and thus will help the Peoples Conference have more stronger ties there." "They (PC) till now did now have any mature face in league with the corridors of power in New Delhi so this will be an added advantage for them," said the politician. Sources said some of the "mentors" of Sajad Lone also played a role in convincing Baigh to join the party. "Infact he (Baigh) also got benefitted. He had left PDP and NC would never take him nor he could join any other party, so he would also need a party and because he knew PC for long, it has been better move for him as well," said a source. It is pertinent to mention that two years ago also, the PC had tried to invite Baigh to the party folds but the latter had changed his mind at the eleventh hour that time. But now he joined them. |
