Online extension lecture on “Problems of Tribes” held | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Apr 6: The Department of Sociology GDC R. S. Pura organized an Online Extension Lecture on“Problems of Tribes”. The resource person of this lecture was Aasif Ali Naikoo, an eminent scholar from Department of Sociology, Barkatullah University Bhopal, MP India. The lecture was organized to enable the students to understand the different aspects of Indian tribal life like distribution of tribes in India, various problems of tribes etc. the lecture has been attended by over hundred participants including students and faculty members. Jai Mala Thakur, Head Department of Sociology delivered the welcome address and conducted the proceedings of the webinar. Aasif Ali Naikoo explained the main problems faced by the Indian tribes. He also highlighted the major issues like Social, Religious, Educational, Health related problems and many more. He further said that tribals are backward and poor living in naturally isolated regional inhabitant. He said that tribals in remote areas are still devoid of common infrastructural facilities of road and communication, health and education, safe drinking water and sanitation, which donot allow them to absorb technological and financial help provided by Government. He also discussed the various measures regarding tribal development in India. Dr. Gurdev Singh Rakwal, Principal of the college in his message said that Independent India has been paying due attention to the problems of the Scheduled Tribes and attempts are being made to deal effectively with those problems. |
