Vaccination of teaching, non teaching staff to start soon | Amid surge Government to intensify COVID testing | | Ishtiyaq Ahmad
Early Times Report
Srinagar, Apr 6: The Jammu and Kashmir government is all set to intensify COVID-19 testing and vaccination in the union territory. According to the details available with Early Times the testing is being intensified as a precautionary measure to contain the virus. “When the pandemic broke out last year testing kits were not available and people were not that aware. This time we have got enough kits and people can be tested randomly. Testing people can prove very effective in containing the virus,” the government has said. “Besides carrying out intensive testing we will be making people aware about the importance of getting vaccinated. These measures are necessary to contain COVID-19 second wave.” Furthermore the authorities have decided to start vaccination of teaching and non-teaching staff. Meanwhile a medico said, “If the government has decided to go for intensive testing it will help in identifying the patients fast but testing only is no solution. The administration needs to put enough facilities in place to accommodate critical patients in hospitals. Testing more people means that number of cases will increase rapidly. We need isolation centers as well as the well equipped hospitals to deal with the surge.” He said, “There have been cases where people have tested positive even after getting vaccinated. It means that the vaccine can help in making COVID less severe rather than providing complete protection to the people. All of us need to bear this factor in mind.” It is in place to mention here that several people tested positive even after taking COVID-19 jabs. “These cases came to limelight as the infected persons were public figures. We have no idea about the cases that weren’t reported. Developing herd immunity can only lead to the end of pandemic and vaccines hold the key,” the medico added. He said, “Reports about new variants of COVID-19 being more deadly are disturbing. If these variants enter J&K it would be difficult to stop the virus from wreaking havoc again. We need to wear mask, maintain social distance and keep on washing our hands regularly. Basics need to be followed to keep the virus at bay. If we don’t pay heed towards the warnings things can turn bad even without us knowing about it.” |
