SRINAGAR, Apr 6: Appointment of contractual lecturers in some of the departments at the University of Kashmir has come under a cloud as a group of meritorious candidates have challenged the whole process alleging discrimination from the people at helm.
Sources told Early Times that the university higher ups have received many representations from the meritorious candidates who have alleged that they have been victimized and as such have not been appointed as contractual lecturers in the various departments at the university campus.
“The meritorious candidates have alleged that they have been given less marks in the interview and as such they could not make it to the final selection list of contractual lecturers in the different departments of University of Kashmir. Following this the whole selection process has come under a question with nobody having any answer in this regard,” said sources.
Sources said that some of the faculty members appointed as nominees by the Vice Chancellor want their own people to be appointed as contractual lecturers and for this they go on an extra mile. They said the deserving candidates have been left out in the entire process of selection with the non-deserving making it to the list.
“Since the blue-eyed candidates were not good in the academic merit they were showered with all the benefits during the interview process. Some of these blue-eyed candidates have been given almost hundred percent marks in the interview process while some others have managed to get around 95 percent of marks,” said sources.
Sources said that once it came out that unprecedented interview marks have been given to the ‘blue-eyed’ candidates most of the deserving candidates decided to knock at the doors of the higher ups of the university. Following this they shot representations to the university authorities demanding stoppage of selection process of contractual lecturers.
“The university authorities have for the time being paid heed to such representations and ordered for stopping the selection process of contractual lecturers in the different departments of the university. Only time will tell how the things shape up in the future and for how long the process would be stopped,” said sources.
Sources said the delay in selection of contractual lecturers in the different departments is bound to affect the academics at the University of Kashmir campus with the students being the ultimate sufferers. They said that since contractual lecturers carry out most of the class work at the university campus delay in their selection is bound to impact the overall academic session at the university campus.
