BANDIPORA, Apr 6: A District Development Council (DDC) member of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) from Bandipora district today resigned from the basic membership of the party. According to sources, Abdul Gani Wani, who had emerged victorious in the recently held DDC polls from Bonakoot constituency on PDP’s ticket, sent his resignation letter to party general secretary today. “I Abdul Gani Wani want to inform you that I hereby tender resignation from the basic membership of the party. I have decided after thorough deliberations with party workers to resign from the party. It is not an easy decision since I have been part of this party since long,” the letter reads. “Having support and honour of my colleague of the party, I’ll be always thankful and surely feel upset that I’m resigning from the PDP party. I’ll be always thankful to people who have encouraged and supported me,” said sources while quoting the letter. Sources also said that an emergency meeting of PDP workers of Banakoot block was held on Tuesday after DDC members resigned from the party. All the workers had worked tirelessly in the recently held DDC elections to make the former DDC member successful, but they were shocked to know about the cause of resignation, sources told early times. It is pertinent to mention here that, recently on April 4, Akhtar Rasool Gilkar, a Municipal Councillor from Sopore, who managed to secure the post on National Conference (NC) ticket in Municipal elections, has resigned from the party. According to sources, Gilkar had said that in view of the recent attack and for some personal reasons, he has left the party and from now onwards he is not affiliated with any party. “I have quit NC and am not affiliated with any political party from now onwards. I will continue to work for the people with dedication,” he said, according to sources. Sources said that he has taken this decision in view of the recent attack and some personal reasons as he didn’t get any kind of help from administration or police. Gilkar had emerged victorious from Ward No. 15 Muslim peer area of Sopore on NC ticket and since then he was working for the welfare of people of his area.
