EARLY TIMES REPORT

ANANTNAG, Apr 15: A private firm, responsible for repairing Bio-Medical equipment under Bio-Medical Maintenance programme, has failed to repair Biochemistry analyzer machine at Maternity and Child Care Hospital Anantnag despite the passage of over three weeks now.
Officials at MCCH Anantnag told Early Times that a few weeks ago a Biochemistry analyzer machine suffered some technical snag and for getting the machine repaired under the Bio-Medical Maintenance program the Mediciti named Private firm was contacted.
“We raised a complaint as per norms and after a few days a representative for the firm came for inspection. He told us that some parts of the machine need to be replaced and left,” an official said, however wished not to be named.
Medical Superintend MCCH Anantnag Dr Mir Ji Andrabi confirmed that the Biochemistry analyzer machine has developed a snag. “Yes the Biochemistry analyzer machine is out of order for the last twenty days and we didn't have another Biochemistry analyzer available in the hospital,” he told Early Times over the phone.
The officer said that they had requested the private firm to repair the machine but nothing was happening. “We requested Mediciti to repair the machine but they are playing today, tomorrow with us,” he added.
The Maternity and Child Care Hospital Anantnag comes under the administrative control of Government Medical College Anantnag.
Deputy Commissioner Anantnag Dr Piyush Singla who visited the hospital on Thursday also confirmed that the Biochemistry analyzer machine was out of order. In an official communication he stressed upon the hospital administration to immediately repair serviceable bio-medical equipment so that poor patients don’t suffer.
As the Biochemistry analyzer machine is out of order, the patients are being asked to get blood and urine tests done from private laboratories. The officials said that the firm didn’t provide them any machine which they are supposed to provide as per the terms of contract.
With this the Health and Medical Education Department’s multi-crore Biomedical Maintenance programme has yet again come under public scanner as the company responsible for repairing Bio-Medical equipment continues to violate the terms of contract.
It is being alleged that the company was enjoying top officers of the Health and Medical Education department were shielding the company and such violations of terms of contract were being put under carpet.
Repeated attempts to contact representatives of the firm who looks after its operations in Jammu and Kashmir failed.
