JAMMU, June 6: Department of Students’ Welfare, Cluster University of Jammu (CLUJ) organized an online interactive discussion on Restoring Ecosystem: A Major concern for the student and teaching fraternity dedicated to the theme “Azaadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav”. This open discussion aimed to bring together key stakeholders to spread awareness among students and faculty about the importance of conserving the environment and negating the impact of human activity on the environment. The theme, Ecosystem Restoration as tackling climate change and the loss of species is crucial to the restoration of ecosystems. About 150 students and teaching faculty from constituent Colleges, PGI Schools of CLUJ and other colleges participated in the event. Prof Bechan Lal, Vice Chancellor, Cluster University of Jammu inaugurated the event. Speaking on the occasion, Prof Lal opined that it is remarkable that the people in Vedic times regarded Nature and environment in a holistic manner and revered each of its constituents and entities by carefully preserving them. Dr. Twinkle Suri, Dean Students Welfare CLUJ in her welcome address exhorted that the theme of World Environment Day 2021 ‘Reimagine, Recreate, Restore' is based on Ecosystem Restoration, which is a 10-year plan to work on stopping environmental degradation. Dr CM Seth, Retd IFS, and a renowned environmentalist of Jammu and Kashmir and Om Prakash Vidyarthi, IFS, a noted environmental campaigner and writer were the keynote speakers at the event. Dean Academic Affairs, CLUJ, Controller Examinations, Deans of Faculties, Principals of constituent colleges, Coordinators of several wings and Assistant Deans also attended the event. The programme was coordinated by Dr Banpreet Kour, Associate Dean, Students Welfare, CLUJ and Dr Kuldeep Raina, Cultural Coordinator, CLUJ. Dr Revika Arora, Cultural Coordinator, anchored the event while Dr Mansi Dean gave a formal vote of thanks. |
