JPDCL caught napping
6/10/2021 11:55:15 PM

As the temperature is rising, Jammu is facing unscheduled power outages and people have no idea about how to survive in the sweltering heat without fans, air conditioners and other electronic gadgets.
The Jammu Power Development Corporation Limited (JPDCL) has been caught unprepared and all its tall claims stand exposed. People of Jammu have been left to fend on their own.
This year Kashmir witnessed a very heavy snowfall despite that people didn’t face many power cuts as the Kashmir Power Development Corporation Limited (KPDCL) had made the preparations well in advance. If the KPDCL was prepared to handle the crisis in the Valley then why has JPDCL failed in Jammu? Helmsmen need to answer this question.
The officials of JPDCL are trying to blame the people for the prevalent power crisis in Jammu. They are claiming that people resort to hooking and indulge in power theft, which leads to overloading and they are left with no other option other than to go for load shedding. Is this explanation justified? On one hand the smart meters have been installed in many areas of the Jammu city and on the other hand officials are trying to hide behind hooking. How strange!
Before blaming a common man, the JPDCL needs to put its act together. Even a layman knows that load increases in the summer season as people use fans, air conditioners and other appliances to beat the heat. The JPDCL should have anticipated that the load would increase in summer. Officials claiming that the load has increased and they are helpless are no excuses. They need to bear in mind that people of Jammu pay for every single unit they consume and they deserve uninterrupted power supply at least in summer months.
The administration is claiming that Jammu will be turned into a “smart city,” but how sad it’s that the proposed “smart city” is facing unscheduled power cuts. People who are running the show seem to be running out of ideas about how to tackle the power crisis.
The JPDCL officials recently claimed that the power distribution system is being augmented and efforts are on to reduce the gap between demand and supply. One hopes that they stick to their word and help the people to beat the heat amidst pandemic. The JPDCL cannot just adopt a wait and watch policy it has to act so that a common man gets some respite.
