As temperature touches 43 degree C, Jammu faces 17 to 18 hour power cut daily | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, June 10: Temperature in winter capital on Thursday reached 43 degrees Celsius, and the helpless Jammuites spent the fourth consecutive day amid unending power cuts and fluctuation. The mishandling of the power crisis by the Jammu Power Distribution Corporation Limited (JPDCL) have left the Jammuites exasperated. Not only Jammu city, but the entire Jammu province gets electricity for less than six hours daily, these days. The JPDCL had yesterday appealed to the consumers to make judicious use of electricity in their households, offices and business centres by switching off all lights, gadgets, devices, etc. when not required, opposition parties including the Congress and PDP took to Twitter to mock at the administration's handling of the electricity distribution in the division by sharing a video of a man manually turning a fan to keep cool under it. “We receive power for hardly six to seven hours when the temperature has gone upto nearly 44 degrees Celsius. Our families are battling with their lives in such hot conditions", said a resident of Satwari. The residents alleged JPDCL engineers and officials have patronised the power theft, who are using more electricity than is allotted to their region. “Recently, a meter reader of PDD (now JPDCL) was booked by ACB for having disproportionate assets. He was not a lone corrupt and money maker by illegal means; there are hundreds of such people in the department”, said Pritam, a shopkeeper, from Muthi Gaon. He said that not only Muthi Gaon, but entire Jammu city and peripheries under prolonged and unending power cuts and fluctuation. “We urge the Lt Governor to intervene in the matter to relieve us from power cuts spanning 17-18 hours in a day”, the shopkeeper said. It is pertinent to mention here that the temperature in the city crossed the 43-degrees Celsius mark and it may go high in coming days. However, the MeT has predicted rains in J&K from June 10. Rohit Kansal Principal Secretary Power Development Department (PDD) couldn’t be contacted for his comment over power failure in Jammu. |
