Govt inaugurates DRDO hospital in Sgr before trial run of facilities | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, June 10: Finally, the government has inaugurated the long-awaited Defence Research and Development Organisation’s (DRDO) 500-bedded COVID Hospital in Srinagar but before the trial run of all the medicare facilities installed therein. Ironically, on June 9, when the hospital was inaugurated by the Lieutenant Governor, the District Commissioner Srinagar told a media briefing that the recovery rate of Covid-19 positive cases has touched 94 percent in the district and Covid positivity rate has also dipped to below 6 percent suggesting that the facility came up a bit late to treat the infected. Giving details, the DC said that Srinagar has recorded 94 percent recovery rate and there are about 2824 active Covid positive cases against 13500 cases in mid May in the district. On the same day, the Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha inaugurated the 500-bedded COVID Hospital at Khonmoh, Srinagar. Ironically though the hospital has been inaugurated, the machinery is not ready for operations. An official handout from the Information Department confirms the same. “Housing all the requisite modern facilities, the centrally Air-conditioned facility has the capacity for 125 ICU beds, out of which 25 are reserved for children and 375 beds with 24-hour oxygen connectivity. 10 bedded Triage area has also been built in 100 sqm. The Covid care facility will fully start its operations once the trial run of all the medicare facilities is completed,” the official handout said. Medical Health experts have raised objections over he “incomplete inauguration.” “What was the fun of inaugurating the facility if the trail run of all the medicare facilities has not been completed as yet,” said a group of senior doctors on the condition of anonymity. Meanwhile the Jammu and Kashmir government has hailed New Delhi saying that it was only due to personal intervention of Hon’ble Prime Minister that J&K has witnessed such large scale capacity enhancement of the medical infrastructure.” The Lt Governor also lauded the DRDO for playing a key role in India's fight against COVID-19. “I acknowledge the hard work of DRDO officials, who have completed both the hospitals in a short span of time, adding 1000 additional beds to serve the people in Jammu and Kashmir”, he added in the same handout which said trail run of all machines was still awaited. |
