Early Times Report

Srinagar, June 12: While Bharatiya Janta Party leader and councilor in Tral, Rakesh Pandita was recently killed by terrorists, the investigators suspect “information lead” that led to the incident.
Sources said the investigators suspect that someone close to Pandita had leaked the information about his travel to Tral and that the terrorists had full information about his visit.
“This seems to be a case where this attack was premeditated as they (terrorists) were well aware about his location and that he was alone(without security),” said an official privy to the investigations on the condition of anonymity.
He said the terrorists must have waited for the appropriate moment to attack Rakesh when it was total dark in the area.
Sources said the Jammu and Kashmir Police have inputs that Pandita had kept his visit to Tral a secret and that only a few of his close aides were aware of the travel. “When it was a secret visit someone from within his close circle has leaked the information giving them (terrorists) time to come with plot for the attack and also to execute it,” the officials said.
Sources said Pandita was all happy on the fateful day and even called his family on phone in Jammu a few minutes before the incident.
The bereaved family said Pandita never told them if he had a threat to life from anyone.
Fond of his birthplace Tral, Pandita would love to contribute towards the development of the area and would share the same with his family and friends.
On the fateful day, as per the police he had left behind his two PSOs at his secured accommodation in Srinagar and travelled to Tral alone for a visit to his friend.
Three terrorists are believed to have fired upon Pandita.
The daughter of his friend was also wounded in the incident.
Pandita’s body was later shifted to Jammu for last rites.
The BJP senior leader and party’s Genera Secretary Ashok Koul has termed his killing a security lapse on the part of the Jammu and Kashmir government.
