Early Times Report

Jammu, June 12: A forest guard and son-in-law of National Conference leader and ex -MLC has allegedly encroached at least 25 Kanal land in Bajalata and Pargalta areas.
Ratan Lal and his family told Early Times that a forest guard encroached upon their ancestral land two years back, and now no one is listening to them. “Authorities, district administration and the Police seem to have surrendered before the ex-MLC as stay orders issued by the Financial Commissioner Revenue, Divisional Commissioner Jammu and the Court are being blatantly flouted by the forest guard,” Ratan Lal said.
He said that 12 years ago a piece of 10 Kanal land was sold out to the forest guard, now he has encroached upon 25-26 kanal of additional land that belongs to his family. “My father Mangal Dass 12-13 years back gave a piece of land to him, but using political patronage of his father-in-law he grabbed our land in 2019”, he said, adding that they have been fighting the case legally since then. “Now, the forest guard has hired some goons, who openly threaten us. They have attacked our family members thrice, but Police did not take any action against them”, he alleged.
“We have lodged at least one dozen complaints at Nagrota Police Station, but no action has been taken against the accused. Our land worth crores is under illegal possession of the forest guard,” he added.
Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Nagrota, Parupkar Singh, said that on the basis of complaints lodged by Rattan Lal, three FIRs have been registered against the forest guard.
“Investigations into the cases are ongoing. Yet if the family has any grievance, they can meet me anytime,” he added.
