Panchari, July 1: The volunteers and members of Sankari Yuva Simiti, Global Human Rights Trust & J&K Police department Panchari participated in a cleanliness drive in the nearby tourist spot Panchari of district Udhampur to spread awareness about the importance & need of cleanliness in our surrounding areas.
The volunteers said a huge quantity of garbage was collected from the tourist place as the tourist rush is heavy during summer (from June to September) in the area.
The Global Human Rights Trust & Sankari Yuva Simiti team took over these areas and conducted the drive. Amongst the team, a group of volunteers collected bags full of plastic bags, disposables, broken water bottles, food wrappers and much more thrown over the tourist place.
The entire area was cleaned up and garbage were lifted and dumped in dustbins in view of the huge flow of tourists and resultant accumulation of huge quantities of garbage and waste. In addition, dustbins also installed during the cleanliness drive which were provided by Jasvir Singh DDC Panchari-Moungri & PRIs.
Kuldeep Katoch President Sankari Yuva Samti told the locals and volunteers to encourage tourists to drop trash only in dustbins and refrain from littering the space.
“It is essential to keep the entire area neat and clean to promote tourism. They also encouraged locals to ensure cleanliness at tourist spots, which would attract more tourists.
While addressing all the volunteers Vikas Dogra SHO Panchari said, “We want to have a visible impact on people and help them understand that cleanliness is a serious issue,” and first phase of it is to start from our own places.
“PM Narendra Modi's favorite quotes said sanitation should not be seen as a political tool, but should only be connected to patriotism (rashtrabhakti) and commitment to public health.
Such drives are a wonderful opportunity for people’s participation and they are major avenues to raise awareness on the importance of cleanliness in one’s neighbourhood, "Surinder Khajuria cashier Sankari Yuva Samiti said."
The activity ended successfully and all appreciated the efforts of young volunteers and the way they are encouraging other people to keep these areas neat & clean.
