7/1/2021 11:58:45 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, July 1: Residents of Talab Tillo, Panjtirathi, Kacha Chhawani, Gandhi Nagar, Nai Basti, are facing a tough time due to prolonged and unscheduled power cuts amid the peak summer season. At a time when mercury has touched 43 degrees, the power is playing hide and seek. “The Power Development Department had told us that once the insulated power cables are laid in the area, there will be no power cuts but nothing has changed even after the laying of cables,” said Bhatri, resident of Anand Nagar Talab Tillo.
She further said that the entire area has been metered yet they are facing power cuts. “Children have been facing huge problems due to erratic power supply in these extreme summer days.
Jammu has seen no change even after J&K becoming a Union Territory,” she said.
“This area has been facing a huge power problem. Temperature is rising with each passing day and under such conditions, children and old aged people are suffering a lot,” said, Mohan Lal Koul, resident of Talab Tillo.
Residents of Talab Tillo Anand Nagar were seen sitting on the bank of the canal passing through this area to get relief from this hot summer day. “Electricity continues to play hide and seek all day. Around 5-6 power cuts are observed in an hour, whenever power comes. Although it is easy to spend day time, spending night without power becomes impossible for us,” said Rajani of Talab Tillo.
“We have got irritated with frequent power cuts and this is going on for the last few weeks. We have to spend sleepless nights due to absence of power. Now it has become common in most of the areas,” said Anil Matoo.
“We have been living in this area for the last twenty years. Although Kashmir Pandit community resides in this area and we feel that we are facing discrimination as power scenario in this area has never improved,” said Ravi, another resident of Talab Tillo.
“There is no schedule of power cuts being followed by the department which was issued months ago. Although we pay electricity bills every month yet we get no power which is promised to us. Students are suffering a lot due to power cuts,” said Amit Kumar, Pinky Bakshi, Vinod Gupta residents of Bakshi Nagar.
