EARLY TIMES REPORT

ANANTNAG, July 1: The authorities have placed Naib Tehsildar Anantnag under suspension after bribery allegations surfaced against him during a demolition drive ordered to remove illegally raised constructions on agriculture land in Anantnag.
“In one of the cases, during the process of demolitions, some of the villagers of Uranhal obstructed the demolition/ encroachment removal drive. While enquiring into the matter, there have been reported allegations of bribery against Naib Tehsildar Anantnag and his staff. Subsequently, vide order No. ACR/READER/207-208 dated 29-06-2021, Assistant Commissioner Anantnag ordered an enquiry into the matter. Therefore, pending enquiry into the matter Nazir Ahmad Naib-Tehsildar Anantnag is placed under suspension till further orders,” reads the order.
The order issued by Assistant Commissioner Anantnag Syed Yasir Farooq (KAS) was approved by Deputy Commissioner Anantnag prior to issuance.
Officials told Early Times that villagers alleged that they had paid huge money to revenue officers before starting raising constructions on agriculture land all along the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway.
As reported earlier, the Revenue authorities also served notices to violators for raising commercial structures on paddy land after Early Times highlighted that the provisions of Land Revenue Act, prohibiting the conversion of Agriculture land for commercial purposes, was taking place under the watch of top revenue officers. A team constituted by Tehsildar Anantnag also carried out a demolition drive near Railway Station Anantnag and damaged the raised structures partially.
Tehsildar Anantnag was directed by Assistant Commissioner Anantnag to check violations of Section 133 of land Revenue Act.
The Assistant Commissioner Anantnag Syed Yasir Farooq (KAS) directed Tehsildar Anantnag to invoke Section 133-C of Land Revenue Act and escheat the converted land to Government and make necessary entries in the Revenue records.
“As envisaged under Section 133-C, which reads as, “Any land converted for other purposes in violation of the provisions of section133-A, or section 133-B or 133-BB shall escheat to the Government”, the land over which the instant violation has taken place shall escheated to the Government. Tehsildar Anantnag shall make necessary entries in the revenue records in this regard,” reads the order issued by ACR Anantnag, a copy of which lies with Early Times.
As reported earlier, the revenue officers are allegedly allowing violators to raise constructions on Agriculture land by taking huge bribes from them. “Initially, violators are allowed to go for the filling of agricultural land and later are allowed to raise huge commercial construction. Clay being used for earth filling mainly comes from Bijbehara and Wopzan areas as the Geology and Mining department has miserably failed to control illegal clay excavation,” an officer told Early Times.
