COVID-19 third wave threat looms large, admin says its ready; people apprehensive | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 11: Amidst warnings being sounded about possibility of third COVID-19 wave likely to hit the country in coming days, administration in J&K is claiming that it’s ready to face the crisis. But the million dollar question is it just a claim or a reality? When the second wave hit Jammu and Kashmir earlier this year that time also the government had claimed that it’s ready to face any eventuality but when the virus raised its ugly head the officials were caught napping. Many people died of oxygen shortage as the oxygen plants were not ready. To tackle the possible third wave, the government had stated that eighty four oxygen plants will be installed across J&K by August 15 but now the deadline has been extended till August 31. “At present 68 oxygen plants are functional in J&K. Now, new 84 plants will be installed in the union territory,” reveals official data. “What remains to be seen, whether these plants will become functional or not? Experiences of second wave have been bitter and people fear that if the third wave is as ferocious as the second wave things can turn ugly,” said an observer. “People are hoping that the third wave doesn’t wreak havoc like second wave. One hopes claims of the officials don’t remain confined to papers only and they are able to translate their slogans into a reality,” he added. |
