Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Jan 5: Two deluxe houseboats were gutted at night in a devastating fire in Dal Lake, causing losses to property running into lakhs of rupees, officials said. The blaze broke out in a houseboat and engulfed another in the Golden Lake area, near Ghat No. 9 of Dal Lake, Fire and Emergency Services said. The Fire and Emergency Services along with boats of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the State Disaster Response Fund reached the spot and doused the fire before it could spread to other houseboats. Houseboats "Apollo 11" and " New Zealand" were completely damaged, the sources said. The cause of the fire is believed to be an electric short circuit. Meanwhile, Apni Party President Altaf Bukhari expressed deep shock over the incident and demanded compensation from the administration. Srinagar Mayor Junaid Azim Mattu also requested authorities to announce ex-gratia to those hit by the tragedy. |
