Early Times Report

SRINAGAR, Jan 5: The Human Resources Development Centre (HRDC) of the University Grants Commission (UGC) at the University of Kashmir has gone to dogs since the performance of the person heading the centre has been ‘mediocre’ with the rules being flouted like anything.
Sources told Early Times that the academically ‘mediocre’ Director of UGC HRDC previously known as academic staff college has destroyed this training college due to multiple reasons. They said that the Director has managed his entry in the university system through manipulation and not to any academic merit.
“The Director UGC HRDC is probably the only person who made it to university system from a clerical job in State Industrial Development Corporation (SIDCO). The Director UGC HRDC established some unholy connections at the varsity and it was due to the same that he got elevated to lead the erstwhile academic staff college,” said sources.
Sources said that programmes conducted by present Director UGC HRDC at the academic staff college have been inaugurated by non-academic people from administration. They said that same is being done for publicity purposes and in the middle of all programmes he brings his near and dear people and terribly compromises on quality of all courses.
“For public consumption and propaganda he invites higher ups and after that he gets his own people to deliver lectures with utter disregard to quality and content. Earlier directors with hard work tried to build up the culture of this college by inviting only known experts in the field without cultivating their own constituency,” said sources.
Sources said that Director UGC HRDC is taking undue advantage of internal uncertainty at the university campus to axe his grind and build up connections for his own personal uses. They said that the Director UGC HRDC has ‘thirst’ for money and same can be confirmed from Department of Management Studies.
“The Director UGC HRDC has typical clerical mentality and lacks vision and depth which is the requirement for being a Director at this training college. Some university and college teachers have already voiced their concern over the role of Director UGC HRDC at the university campus and they are contemplating to knock at the doors of higher ups,” said sources.
Sources said that these academicians along with the other stake holders at the University of Kashmir campus have sought thorough probe in academic bungling at the erstwhile academic staff by a Dean's committee to be constituted by Vice-Chancellor Professor Talat Ahmad. They have also sought intervention of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha.
