After destroying Jammu’s bussiness J&K Govt’s next target is Katra | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 5: Ridiculing decision of the government to make online registration mandatory for pilgrims of Mata Vaishno Devi, Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) chief Ghulam Ahmad Mir on Wednesday smelt a deep-rooted conspiracy in this unwise decision. “The incumbent Jammu and Kashmir government is hell-bent to destroy bussiness of Jammu province. After snatching livelihood the businessmen, shopkeepers, and traders of Jammu district, the government is now trying to finish bussiness of Katra also”, Mir told The Early Times. “Decision of making online registration mandatory is a ridiculous step and this decision will discourge devotees”, Mir observed and regretted that instead of fixing responsibility on those responsible worst-ever stampede at Bhawan authorities are trying to create trouble for Yatries. “It was a good sign that thousands and thousands of devotees had arrived on the eve of the new year to perform Yatra and it was the duty of the authorities to regulate the rush”, he said and Saturday’s incident, in which 12 devotees have lost their lives, was a man-made tragedy. Echoing apprehensions of PCC chief G A Mir, former Chief Minister and president of National Conference Dr. Farooq Abdullah observed that Yatra, as well as the business of Katra, will be badly affected due to the online registration process. “After stampeding in Katra, the government has made online registration mandatory for devotees. Most of the people who come to pay obeisance are poor people. They do not know how to book online. Even some educated people do not know how to book online. The business of Katra will suffer. After ruining the business in Jammu, now the government next target is to destroy Katra business”, Dr. Abdullah observed. Former Deputy Chief Minister and senior BJP leader Kavinder Gupta has also opposed the decision of making online registration mandatory for Yatra. “There must be some provisions of offline registration because all devotees are not aware of the digital system”, Kavinder Gupta told The Early Times. He said that authorities should show some flexibility for the pilgrims. Opposing the decision of the government former chairman of Katra Municipal Committee Amrish Magotra said that this step would be proved disastrous for the Yatra as well as for the bussiness community of Katra. “Now only digit known people will perform Yatra”, he said and added that majority of the devotees are not aware of the digital system. As reported earlier, after Saturday’s stampede the government has decided to close all registration counters Saturday’s first-ever stampede at Bhawan of the cave shrine in which 12 devotees were killed and 15 other injured. During the meeting of the Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, it was decided that pilgrims who have online registration would be allowed to perform Yatra. At present, pilgrims undertaking the 13-km trek can either get their yatra slips issued online or on their arrival at Katra town. A Shrine Board official said that while on an average, only 2,000 daily yatra slips are issued online, around 28,000 are issued to pilgrims on their arrival at Katra. |
