JK admin greets 100 % spike of Covid cases in Jammu with Kavi Sammelan
1/6/2022 11:28:36 PM
Early Times Report

JAMMU, Jan 6: A day after Jammu witnessed a hundred percent spike in Covid cases with over 300 testing positive on January 5, the J&K admin started a 4-day poetry festival here on Thursday.
As per an official handout of the Information department, a 4-day Poetry Festival organized by Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages (JKAACL) commenced here today.
“The event was presided over by renowned Hindi Poet and Writer Prof. (Dr.) Raj Kumar. Prof. Nirmal Vinod, Dr. A S Amn Additional Secretary and Dr. Javaid Rahi Chief Editor of JKAACL were in the presidium. The event began today with a Hindi ‘Kavi Samalan’ at K L Saigal Hall of JKAACL,” the handout added. Prof Raj Kumar in his presidential address appreciated the Academy for its endeavor to develop National as well as regional languages.
He said organizing a literary festival in various languages of the region will promote Dogri, Kashmiri, Hindi, Punjabi and Urdu.”
Dr. A S Amn in his welcome address said the Academy is going to hold more mega events in 2022. The proceedings of the programme were conducted by Rita Khadyal incharge Hindi Sheeraza.
Pertinently the Information department had invited journalists also to cover the event. Medical health experts have raised questions over the holding of event at such an “odd hour.”
“Everyone respects such cultural activities but why to risk lives of poets and other hosts in the first instance in the wake of the spike in the cases,” said a medical health expert on the condition of anonymity.
The experts said the administration was expected to behave “even responsibly given the past experience.”
It’s pertinent to mention that Jammu witnessed the brunt of the Covid second in 2021. Apart from witnessing a “record number of mortalities”, the patients were seen literally gasping for the oxygen even at hospitals.
While the Central government has asked the J&K Government to remain vigilant in the wake of nationwide spike of Covid cases, it was a day of poetic festival in Jammu.
When contacted a senior official said the event couldn’t be cancelled but that Covid appropriate behavior was being observed.
