Strengthening rural sports infra can be game changer for youth: Tony | | | Early Times Report
R S PURA, Jan 16: Fortifying the young blood by providing a robust sports infrastructure in the rural belts of the Union Territory can prove to be a game changer for the whole society as sports arenas are the best for preventing youths from misadventure of drug addiction and alcoholism. This was said by DDC Member Suchetgarh, Taranjit Singh Tony in a statement issued to media here today. He demanded effective edifice for sports in the rural hamlets of the region to ensure healthy villages free from drugs, alcohol and criminal mindset, which is eating up the vitals of society. The DDC Member from Suchetgarh said that sports have the power to bring about meaningful changes in children and youth and the same is acknowledged the world over. “This is particularly true for those at risk due to poverty, gender inequality and abundance of intoxicating substances in the present day world. There is growing evidence that if used in the right manner, sports can contribute towards promoting health, improving academic outcomes, gender empowerment, and even conflict resolution”, he said. Tony said that sports is always for a mix of fun, self-improvement and competition that will vary with the players involved and the sport they are playing at a particular time. He said sports make friends and strengthen relationships with others, enhances self-esteem, improves dexterity to handle stress in a much better way and prevent a range of problems including substance abuse. He said that today’s youth especially hailing from rural areas gives unemployment and other stressful conditions as alibis to drug abuse and therefore government should give ample opportunities to the young lot to play sports and hone them in a way that they become robust mentally and instead of falling prey to drugs fight and struggle the real time problems with confidence and pride. |
