Amid Covid spike, lack of coordination on restrictions adds to ‘chaos’ | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 16: Even as Jammu and Kashmir claims to be fully prepared to fight the spike in Covid, the alleged lack of coordination on weekend restrictions has hit the administration leading to chaos. Sources said there was a “total lack of coordination” between the officials in the Civil Secretariat and those on deputation at the Raj Bhawan leading to “chaos in decision-making.” Sources said on January 15, the people had to face tough time when all of a sudden the administration announced weekend restrictions in some of the districts, when people were already out for work and markets on. Sources said the civil administration and the Raj Bhawan officials had issued contradictory verbal orders on the enforcement on restrictions leaving “the officials in field confused on whom to obey.” Sources said till around 10 AM the district heads were not aware of whether to go for “limited lockdown or not.” Sources said finally when the orders for the enforcement of “limited lockdown” were issued, it was “too late.” A senior official who spoke to the Early Times on the condition of anonymity said leave apart the problem faced by the people due to sudden enforcement of the restrictions, even police had to face tough time in the enforcement. “You first ask people to go for daily work and then all of a sudden announce lockdown when markets are bustling. It sends a wrong signal about the state of affairs,” said the official. He said it was an open secret that the lack of coordination between the experienced officials in the Civil Secretariat and the ones on deputation was a major impediment in the smooth functioning of affairs. “The problem is that those on deputation are not well versed with the governance in Jammu and Kashmir and their kind of decision making is proving a hit a trial,” the official said. |
