Delhi Govt lifts weekend curbs, allows restaurants to function; J&K Govt enforces 66-hour lockdown | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 27: In order to restore the semblance of normalcy the Delhi Government has lifted the weekend curfew and has ordered reopening of restaurants and cinemas at 50% capacity. The decision to ease curbs was enforced during the Omicron surge but due to the mild nature of the new Covid variant the Delhi Government has eased the restrictions to keep the economy moving. However, in Jammu and Kashmir, the government has taken stringent measures to curb Omicron spread in the Union Territory and has ordered a 66-hour weekend lockdown. The restaurants, cinema halls and other public places have been closed. A businessman while talking to Early Times said, “The J&K Government has developed a habit of falling asleep after issuing any order. It seems that the helmsmen are not assessing the situation. Many countries have lifted the lockdown and have described Omicron as a mild variant which people should learn to live with but the JK Government seems unaware about what’s happening in other parts of the world.” He said, “During the past two years the economy has suffered immensely and the helmsmen need to pay attention towards this fact. They cannot keep on imposing lockdowns every now and then. The J&K administration needs to take a cue from the Delhi government and ease the curbs. Restaurant and hotel owners have been suffering. They should be allowed to operate at least with 50% capacity.” |
