Shocker: Babu hurts Republic Day sanctity! | Info Deptt attributes wrong term for tricolor, people seek FIR | |
Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 27: In a shocking development, the Department of Information and Public Relations or DIPR has used grossly inappropriate term for unfurling of the tricolor by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on the 73rd Republic Day with people seeking registration of FIR against the “erring officials.” As per the DIPR handout released on January 26, “Lt Governor Manoj Sinha hoists National Flag at Republic Day function.” The DIPR said handout further said “Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha hoisted the National Flag at the Union Territory level function on the occasion of the 73rd Republic Day, here at Maulana Azad Stadium this morning.” Legal experts said the tricolor is never hoisted on the Republic Day but that it’s unfurled and that there was a sea of difference between the two. “There is a difference between hoisting a flag on Independence day and unfurling it on Republic Day. On Independence Day, the Indian tricolour is tied at the bottom of the flag pole and then pulled up for hoisting. This is done to mark the Independence of the country from the British Rule. On the other hand, during the Republic Day celebrations, the flag is already tied up on the top and is unfurled without pulling it up, which depicts that the country is already independent,” explained a legal expert. He said such a “criminal negligence” on the part of the officials cannot be tolerated. “Such act amounts to criminal offence and spread of misinformation among the masses on such auspicious day,” he said. Senior officials in the Civil Secretariat said it was for the first time in the history of Jammu and Kashmir that such a “blunder has taken place.” The officials told the Early Times on the condition of anonymity that a top official in the DIPR who is on deputation in J&K was responsible for the mess. “The arrogance of this sufarshi official is so high that he didn’t even issue a corrigendum to apologize to the nation but dares to spread wrong information among the masses,” the official said. “Action must be initiated against the official on deputation who is calling the shots but now at the cost of constitutional ethics of the nation,” said a senior official on the condition of anonymity. Some months ago, the same “sufarshi” official had come under scanner for “ill treating government employees” who had subsequently gone on strike to condemn the “babu raaj.” “That time also this pampered official was spared due to his sufarshi credentials,” the officials said. Despite repeated attempts the accused official was not available for comments. Meanwhile the people from various walks of the society have appealed Prime Minister Narendra Modi to personally look into the matter and initiate strict action including registration of FIR against the erring official. “Nobody can be allowed to play with the sentiments of the nation or to hurt sanctity of our Republic Day. Heads must roll,” the people said. |
