BARAMULLA, Jan 28: Two brothers drowned today in River Jhelum while extracting sand near Jetty Khowjabagh, the duo hails from Bandipora district, whereas efforts were on to retrieve their bodies till the last reports came in. The siblings were identified as Nissar Ahmad Malla and Hilal Ahmad Malla r/o Bahrampora Littaripora village of Bandipora district, said sources. Both the siblings are of the same age and the duo were married and are having little children, they had left early morning from their home in Bandipora today to extract the sand as they have debts of some contractor, said a relative of the two siblings. It is learnt from the relatives of the duo that a pall of gloom descended over the native village of the duo in Bandipora on the tragic death of these two siblings. The parents are agricultural and daily labour, and keeping this poverty aside, the duo used to extract sand and other daily wage works in the nearby areas to feed their families, said another relative. “Soon after the incident, police were informed and we started a rescue operation in the area to retrieve the bodies”, the police official said. The police official said that SDRF, Police and local divers were called in, the family of the duo has been also called and efforts are on to retrieve their bodies, adding a case has been also registered in police station. |
