Jammu, Jan 28: Office of the Social Welfare Department (SWD) is inaccessible for the specially abled people. Scores of specially abled people who had assembled outside the SWD office of while talking to reporter said that they are unable to reach out to the officials as there is no ramp for them to reach the lift. “Even the lift is not working. So how can we reach the officials,” they said, adding, “According to the act passed for the disabled persons, no department which is visited by the handicapped people should be without a ramp. But the most visited office by us has no ramp. How unfortunate,” they said. The specially abled people who were sitting outside the SWD office said that they will wait till the officials come down and listen to their woes. “We were promised that our stipend will be increased from Rs 1000. But nothing has been done till date to increase our stipend.” “We cannot manage our expenses within Rs 1000. If they can’t increase our stipend let them take it back and provide us with some work,” they said. Protesters said, “We are being told that Director Madam cannot come down as she has tested Covid positive. She can talk to us through video conferencing but the fact is that officials don’t want to meet us and listen to our grievances.” |
