4 militant attacks in 14 days in Srinagar
1/28/2022 11:58:14 PM
Early Times Report

Srinagar, Jan 28: Even as the Jammu and Kashmir administration has been giving a rosy picture of the situation, at least four militant attacks have taken place in the summer capital of Srinagar alone in the last fortnight. This is apart from such attacks taking place elsewhere in the restive valley.
In the latest a policeman had a narrow escape in the militant strike on him on January 28 in Batamaloo locality here raising questions over the state of affairs in the administration.
The police man was attacked at SD Colony area of Batamalooon Friday afternoon after unknown gunmen fired at him but he survived the assault and escaped unhurt.
This attack took place barely three days after a grenade attack in busy marketplace, a mile away, on the eve of Republic Day, raising concerns over security preparedness put in place by the administration.
The grenade blast, which had rocked high security area of Hari Singh High Street on January 25 afternoon had taken place less than 24 hours ahead of the mega celebrations.
A police official of the rank of inspector and seven civilians were wounded in the incident.
It was third the grenade attack in Srinagar in less than a fortnight.
Earlier on January 17, unidentified militants attacked the Police Control Room (PCR) with a grenade in the high security Batamaloo area of Srinagar.
The grenade was lobbed at the 6th India Reserve Battalion at the PCR in Batmaloo area of the city on the fateful evening.
Pertinently, the attack on PCR was second such strike in the city within 24 hours.
On January 16, militants lobbed a grenade at a joint team of police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel at Saraf Kadal area of the Old City leaving a cop and a civilian injured.
Security analysts said the strike in militant attacks in the summer capital raises serious concerns over how the administration in Jammu and Kashmir was running the affairs.
“Those at the helm need to spare time for the security preparedness,” said a security analyst.
