Educated but weak society | | | Vijay Garg
The history of education has been associated with the history of the development of human society and civilization. In the same way, education and society have been related to religion from the very beginning. Education has been given the highest place in all religions. In the Gita it is said, nahi jnyanen sadarsham pavitramih vidyate, that is, there is nothing in this world as pure as knowledge. Knowledge refers to learning and learning is directly related to education. The founder of Islam, Hazrat Muhammad had said, 'Acquire knowledge from mother's lap to Lahad (i.e. from birth to death).' Education has been considered as the pivot of development of human society. The goal of all development efforts is to improve the standard of living of human beings and education is the backbone of development in any area of the society. Apart from this, thinkers and thinkers have had different views on the concept of education since ancient times and have tried to define it in their own way. Giving the most appropriate definition of education in the Indian context, Mahatma Gandhi said, "By education I mean the highest development of mind, body and spirit of the child and of man." Gandhi was a religious philosopher as well as a social reformer. According to him, just as mother's milk is necessary for the physical development of the child, in the same way education is necessary for the physical and spiritual progress of man. He considered literacy and education to be completely different. According to him, literacy is neither the end nor the beginning of education. It is only a means of educating man. He gave the meaning of education to all round development of human personality and character building. In today's hi-tech world, education has been considered a prerequisite for any powerful economy. In national and global discourse, education has been considered the foundation of social and economic progress. The World Education Forum, formed by UNESCO, World Bank, Asian Development Bank etc., works to study and plan for the promotion of education all over the world. Through this the slogan of Education for All (Education for All) was given and for this an organized campaign was launched. With all this, a law was made in India to make the right to education a fundamental right and the central and other state governments including Bihar emphasized on the universalization of education. An attempt was made to ensure that no school going child is left out of school by running the campaign. There is no doubt that all these efforts have been successful to a great extent, due to which the literacy rate has increased in rural areas as well. However, during the increasing transition of Corona, the education system is getting affected the most. At this stage, we are compelled to think that whatever is happening is only literacy or people are getting educated in real sense. According to him, the purpose of education is character building and quality life and the quality of human life cannot be imagined from the social environment. It has been our belief that there is an interdependent relationship between the individual and the society. Then education should be to strengthen the relationship between these two, but on the contrary sometimes educated person starts feeling isolated from the society. Such education will be considered incomplete, because it makes the fabric of the society shabby. Today, the belief is taking root in the public practice that the one who has more resources in the society, he will be entitled to more prestige. On the other hand, the spirit and tradition of socializing more intelligently in the joy of success and achievements is getting weakened. Quality life cannot be imagined without sociality and morality. In the present and social belief, instead of the education system, character building and nation building, the measure of success of an educated person has been linked to his ability to earn money. The bigger the income, the higher the person looks on the ladder of success. Such a practice has started that education has been taken as a means of earning money indiscriminately. Under a one-point program of earning money, a person forgets the concern of the family, far from the society. In the race to earn more and more at a faster rate, the society is going backward. Society and humans seem to be moving forward, but society and humanity are lagging behind. The basic purpose of education is getting eroded due to contamination of thinking and purpose and sociality is succumbing to materiality. The surprising thing here is the easy acceptance of this trend by the society. The society looks disgraceful towards the thinking under which the foundation of the society is being attacked and its nature is being distorted. The time has come, we have to get out of this mentality which is destroying the structure of the society. Unfair earning is bad till we don't get a chance. In the event of self benefiting from it, all ideals are lost. To keep the aim of education pure, the society has to come out of this dual mentality. It is not only the responsibility of the government to take initiative to make education effective and useful, but the society also has an important role to play. The values of sociality, morality and nationality will have to be inculcated in the family and social values along with the school curriculum. Society has to bring the required changes in its value system. One has to give up the mindset of considering the one who earns maximum money as the most successful. It has to be understood that society and government also have their own role in our success and achievements. An educated man has to see what he is doing for the society? An educated person has to leave the tendency to make his own identity and make his utility and relevance in the society. His public contribution and character brilliance will have to be made the test of social prestige. Only then can we build a strong society and a sustainable civilization. |
