Early Times Report

Rajouri, Feb 26: Although the conditions of important roads across Jammu region are deplorable, the roads of Rajouri district have topped as the worst in the region as vital route LG Bypass road which connects several important areas is full of potholes and water-logging.
This LG Bypass road connects several important areas including Government Medical College (GMC) Rajouri, Mughal Road, Thannamandi, Shadra Sharief and entire Peer Panjal. Due to ongoing work, the road has been turned into one way as a result traffic movement has become erratic on this route as thousands of vehicles pass through this stretch.
Locals alleged that several previous governments as well as the present administration have failed to take prompt action to restore the deteriorated condition of this road. They were of the opinion that at least some repair should be done so that vehicular movement might not disrupt.
“At many places, the road stretch measuring 20-30 feet is totally in dilapidated condition and during rain it turns into water logging which becomes dangerous for commuters. Several accidents are reported on these stretch due to huge pits filled with water,” they alleged further adding that though this road also leads to Baba Gulam Shah Badshah University.
Even the road has no side track for pedestrians, which again causes huge difficulties for the common masses. Interestingly several VIPs pass through this road but they never paid heed to the worst condition. Not only this road, even the roads across the district are in bad condition and even never repaired once. Mostly it has been seen that the road which are constructed or blacktopped are not repaired by the contractors who constructed these roads which clearly shows that the department is also hand in glove with such people.
When it rains the entire road turns into a water pool and when it is sunny days, the dust comes off from the road the entire day.
When Early Times contacted the Executive Engineer PWD Rajouri, he said that the department has not got administrative approval for this road till date. As far as the work of filling potholes is concerned, the officer said that the department has no funds. He further said that they have taken the matter with higher ups. Responding to the questions on the responsibility of any accident that takes place due to bad condition of the road, he said that though the road is under construction so no claims can be given to the victim.
