Contractor bags Rs 26 lakh project for Rs 4 lakh, leaves work incomplete | Doda residents await stadium, blame PWD for callous attitude | | Early Times Report
Doda, Feb 26: Residents of Bearbagh in Doda district are waiting for a sports stadium to come up in the area for a long time. According to the residents, the Public Works Department had issued a tender of Rs 26 lakhs for the project. The lowest bidder got the contract for Rs 4.60 lakhs, but after carrying out little work the activities were stopped following which the PWD released another tender of Rs 26 lakhs but till now it has not been bagged by any contractor. “There is only one sports stadium in Doda but that’s meant for the big events. Children come to this ground to play and are waiting eagerly for this stadium to come up. But it seems that the project has been caught in the official wrangles and files. The department before awarding the contract to any contractor should check whether he would be able to complete the work in the given amount or not. Giving the contract to the lowest bidder without looking into pros and cons depicts the callous attitude of the officials,” they added. The residents said that they are hoping that the work on the stadium will start soon and children will be able to play in the proposed stadium. |
