Upgrade facilities at Srinagar Airport: Farooq Abdullah | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Mar 10: Former J&K chief minister Farooq Abdullah on Thursday stressed the need for seamless and enjoyable journey through the airport to passengers. The MP asked the authorities to upgrade facilities during a high-level meeting of Airport Advisory Committee of the Srinagar Airport held under his Chairmanship during which all aspects were put forth for the upgrading facilities for the passengers. It was disclosed that the plans for construction of a new integrated terminal building for Srinagar Airport are in the advanced stages, officials said on Thursday. The members were informed that plans for construction of a new integrated terminal building for Srinagar Airport are in an advanced stage, a statement issued by Director Airport Srinagar said. On commissioning of the building the passenger area will be increased from 20,226 SM to 64,360 SM. The annual passenger capacity will also be increased from 2.5 Million to 6.5 Million. The peak hour passenger capacity will be augmented to 3,000 from the existing 950. A state of the art modern multi-level car parking will also be constructed for parking of 1,000 vehicles, it added. The suggestions put forward by the honourable Chairman and the members of the committee including Traffic jam/long queue at drop gate, Free of cost bus service/electric cart from drop gate, Introduction of Food Court at the airport, Foreign Exchange counter for international passengers, To allow tourists to visit airport for buying tickets, Introduction of staff canteen and Expeditious Security checks for passenger convenience. The members also called for having ticket counters outside the main terminus to help messengers evade the stressful and time-consuming process involved. The members also sought apron buses or airside transfer bus service from the main entrance gate to the terminal. The airport management assured the committee to diligently work and implement the suggestion received so that the overall passenger experience may be improved. Among others officials from the Airport Authority of India, Airport Director and other stakeholders participated in the meeting. |
