Handicapped people threaten self-immolation | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Mar 10: The handicapped persons under the Jammu & Kashmir Handicapped Association today threatened to go for self-immolation in case the Jammu & Kashmir administration does not accede to their demands. The Association members said that they have been demanding hike in pension for the disabled persons to Rs. 3,000 per month. Abdul Rashid Bhat, President of the Association said that they have been demanding reservation for the handicapped persons in the government jobs according to the constitution. Bhat said that they would carry out two days dharna followed by a one day protest outside the Raj Bhavan. He said this would be followed by a dharna outside the office of Divisional Commissioner Jammu and Divisional Commissioner Kashmir. He said that this would be followed by a protest at Jantar Mantar at New Delhi in case the demands are not met. Bhat said that they would protest outside the parliament in case the demands are not met adding that they would be forced to take extreme step of self-immolation in case the people at helm do not wake up. He said that they are demanding genuine things adding their demands have fallen on deaf ears so far. |
