Ailing hospitals of Jammu negate J&K Govt’s claim | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 17: Even as the Jammu and Kashmir government on Sunday claimed to have enhanced oxygen capacity from 14916 to 90300 lmp but authorities have failed to improve basic infrastructure in the hospitals of Jammu province. What to say about appointing adequate medical and para-medical staff, authorities have failed to even provide basic amenities like clean washrooms and other facilities. Most of the hospitals across Jammu province are confronting with a shortage of medical staff because the recruitment process of doctors is going at a snail’s pace. Most of the hospitals in Jammu province are functioning as referral centres because patients with minor ailments are usually referred to Government Medical College Jammu which is already over-burdened. The medical and para-medical staff of the Government Medical College, especially those working in emergency wards of the hospitals, are over-burdened due to shortage of staff. The newly set up medical colleges in different parts of Jammu province are yet to function normally due to a shortage of medical and para-medical staff and the non-availability of adequate infrastructure. Highly placed sources said that during the second wave of deadly Coronavirus issue of the shortage of medical and para-medical staff was brought to the notice of higher-ups but nothing has been done so far. The Jammu and Kashmir government on Sunday claimed that with the intervention of the Lieutenant Governor’s administration and good support from the Government of India, the JK dispensation had been able to enhance its oxygen production capacity from 14916 lpm in August 2020 to 90300 lpm capacity at present. |
