Despite LG's announcement female aspirants for SI posts denied 15% reservation benefits | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Apr 17: Even as Lieutenant Governor (LG) Manoj Sinha had announced 15% reservation for women in Non-Gazetted posts of J&K Police on the occasion of National Girl Child Day in January earlier this year but the decision is yet to be implemented in letter and spirit. While the intention of the LG led administration was to further strengthen women empowerment in J&K but the decision has not yielded any benefits to the female aspirants, who had applied for the posts of Sub-Inspectors (SIs), for which a written examination was recently conducted by the J&K Services Selection Board. A large number of female aspirants for SI posts informed Early Times that though the announcement to grant 15% reservation to women in Non-Gazetted posts of J&K Police was made three months ago and much earlier than the recruitment process for the Sub-Inspector posts was initiated but the women candidates were denied the benefits of the decision. The female candidates further said that they made frenetic enquiries with the JKSSB with regard to the reservation rule, however, the officials of the Board informed that they haven't received a formal notification from the government in this regard, adding that the intending department was also silent on this issue. It is worthwhile to mention here that while making an announcement regarding 15% reservation, the Lt Governor had said that it is just the beginning and the government is determined and committed to increase it further in the future. However, the manner in which the female aspirants for the posts of Sub-Inspectors were deprived of their right raises several questions. |
