Another PDD lineman electrocuted to death, 4th casualty in 15 days | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Apr 17: A yet another lineman of Power Development Department (PDD) was electrocuted to death while repairing a transformer in Central Kashmir’s Budgam district on Sunday. This is the fourty casualty of a PDD lineman in Kashmir during the past fortnight. According to the details available with Early Times the PDD lineman identified as Mohammad Ashraf Mir, a resident of Badapora Nagam Charar-e-Sharief received electric shock while repairing a transformer in Haproo area. He was shifted to a local hospital where doctors declared him brought dead. On April 13, a 28-year-old Shabir Ahmad Khan, a casual labourer with PDD was also electrocuted to death while repairing an electric line in Anantnag. Prior to him one lineman died in North Kashmir’s Bandipora area and another was electrocuted to death in Pattan area. An observer while talking to Early Times said, “It’s unfortunate that despite four linemen losing their lives within 15-days the PDD is not showing any concern towards these poor victims.” He claimed that these deaths are taking place allegedly due to the negligence on the part of the officials sitting at the grid stations who switch on the power without checking whether anyone is working in the field or not. Despite these casual laborers putting their lives at stake to keep the homes of people illuminated the Power Department has failed to devise any proper scheme for them. If any of these poor souls die while repairing the line their families are not provided any compensation. The ones who got crippled after getting electrocuted too are not also provided any relief. |
