People protest over non-availability of ration | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
KATHUA, Apr 28: The residents of Hiranagar town held a protest demonstration against the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA) Department for not providing adequate ration supply to them. Several residents assembled near a Government ration depot and raised slogans against the FCS&CA Department and the store keeper for non-availability of ration. They said that the ration depot has not opened for the last two days and some ration card holders had to cover a long distance but have to return empty handed. “We are coming for the straight third day to take flour from the depot but every time we find that the ration store is shut. We were told by the storekeeper to come on Monday to collect our quota of ration but we didn’t get it for the last three days,” a woman said. “We have been standing outside the store since 9 in the morning but it is yet to be opened by the storekeeper. As and when we left the venue the storekeeper then surely will open the store,” she added. Another resident said that the Department needs to probe whether the quota of supply of essential commodities meant for the genuine ration card holders is reaching them or not, adding that if there is some sort of pilferage then it must be looked into. People alleged that the storekeeper is not providing ration to the people, thus creating problems for them. They demanded adequate ration supply to the people at the earliest. |
