Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 28: Even as the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) term II exams have commenced across the country since April 26, thousands of students from Jammu and Kashmir are struggling to prepare for the same in the wake of “worst-ever power crises” in the Union Territory. Accusing the Raj Bhawan of playing with their careers, the students, and their parents sought personal intervention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “While Modi talks about youth friendly initiatives, the Raj Bhawan which is over busy hosting Musical concerts and other colorful festivities to give a rosy picture, has actually played with our careers this time,” said a delegation of the students writing exams for the class 10 and 12, flanked by their parents. The students said it was virtually impossible to study without electricity in scorching heat. “There is something like homework and preparedness which our government failed to do for ensuring adequate power supplies during the prestigious CBSE exams,” said a parent. The students said they haven’t been unable to prepare properly for the exams and that the onus of their performance will lie on the government. “A Raj Bhawan which fails to even provide adequate bijli and paani needs to be made accountable because this time our career has been put at stake,” said the students. Jammu and Kashmir has been facing “worst ever power crises” this summer due to almost fifty percent deficit in energy requirements from the Northern Grid which feeds power to the Union Territory. While J&K needs around 3000 megawatts of power, the J&K government has been unable to get more than 1500 megawatts. Meanwhile the Jammu and Kashmir government on April 27 has said that “In order to meet the increasing electricity demand in Jammu & Kashmir, the Union Government has allocated 207 MW additional Power to the Union Territory.” “Principal Secretary, to the Lt Governor & PDD, Shri Nitishwar Kumar said that the order issued by the Union Ministry of Power will substantially increase the availability of power in J&K,” a government handout said. “Pertinently, the Union Government has allocated additional power from the unallocated quota of Central Generating Stations of Northern Region Pool to Jammu & Kashmir.” |
